Can resume cover letters be exciting? That depends on if you are the reader or the writer! If you are writing cover letters chances are you are not too excited. Looking for a job is despised by most people and writing often comes a close second to many.
Reading cover letters can be as exciting as a long stay in the Dentist’s waiting room. Every so often, I would receive one so exciting or out of the ordinary I would rush to share the letter with my coworkers. Employers like to see enthusiasm in job candidates so expressing some excitement in your cover letters can be good for you.
Look at it this way: Your cover letter is a commercial for you. People endorsing products in commercials are excited. Who wants to buy anything that is going to cause boredom? So inject some energy and enthusiasm into your writing. The best way to write enthusiastically is to get excited about writing.
Instead of sitting alone at the computer pounding your head and racking your brains trying to come up with all the right words, enlist the help of a friend. If you have several friends looking for work throw a cover letter writing party! If you don’t have anyone to help you or who is also job hunting change your environment. Visit a coffee shop with a cup of your favorite beverage and your laptop. If nothing else visit your local library and write your letter there. Sometimes just being around other people can lift you up into a better mood.
Now create a fantasy cover letter or two about your real state of mind. Write one you will never send anyone that states exactly how you feel. Say what you would really like to say: For instance:
I have been out of work for six months and I have no more unemployment benefits. Let’s skip the interview. I just want a damn job. I am ready to go to work now.
After you have a few things off your chest look through a dictionary for energetic, exciting, and enthusiastic words. Then create the most exciting cover letter you can. For example:
When I saw your ad for an engineer I was so excited I wet my pants. I can be at your office in fifteen minutes for an interview. If you hire me I will be so ecstatic you’ll see me do cartwheels all over your office. I will be so happy to have a job I will come in early every day and stay past quitting time working with a fervent passion. Rapturously yours,
OK you will get attention from that letter but probably not the kind you want. This creative writing can be fun if you really let your imagination run wild. If you are in a public place people are going to be wondering what you are laughing about. The goal is to get yourself in a positive state of mind. You want stimulating cover letters ready to get you interviews. Think about the value you have to offer a company and how dedicated you will be at your next job.
I bet you get the idea. After a bit of fun you will be ready to write your cover letters with some energy and enthusiasm injected. Even if you do not produce a cover letter you can use you will no doubt be in a better mood and you can use enthusiastic OneClick Cover Letters that have been proven to get interviews.
