Hello, and welcome to our little website. First off, I’d like to introduce the various folks that contribute to this website, to include, webmaster, editor, publisher, graphics designer, site reviewer, product reviewer, marketing guru, on site analyst, janitor, executive assistant (coffee getter), proofreader, and final sayer in all things site related – me!
I am Hyo, father of the darling, little troublemaker to the left, Sophia.
People ask me about 3 things – working out, wines, and networking. Interesting, those are the 3 areas where I have a yellow belt going on ninth degree black belt. The saying in Tae Kwon Do was that a yellow belt’s biggest challenge was in not getting himself killed out in the real world. A little knowledge is oh so dangerous.
But, with that monster size warning sign blinking over my head, I thought I’d share what I know to a larger group. Isn’t the internet great? 20, or 10 years ago, a schmuck like me lived in a little reality of my own, dispensing what little knowledge I had to a tiny group of acolytes. But now, with blogging, it’s all out there.
So, I decided to start blogging about what I know and what I am passionate about. I am also really into yakking about politics but that little personal blog will come later, maybe. I am absolutely a world class wine geek. And I have started that blog but nothing is in it. I actually don’t know when I’m going to get that going. Currently, I have this blog and afitness blog.
Having a full time job, I find that blogging two sites is about the limit of what I can do. I want to help folks and I want to be a source of good and actually useable information. I have no interest in blogging for the sake of blogging. I have my bad days, but if I have to force myself to sit in front of a computer and type something, anything - well, that’s not happen because that’s not why I am doing this.
As I help my friends at work and in networking, I just thought I’d share some of that with you.
This web site is about as the subtitle claims, “For Job Seekers and Career Changers, A Place for Support and Information, Plus a Laugh or Two.” (That was the original motto from last year, at the start of 2011, I changed it to – A Non-Guru’s advice to jobseekers on finding a job, writing cover letters and resumes; plus a pithy word, or 2, on landing on your feet - I think it’s more accurate.) But, let me also emphatically state that I am not a career counselor. I could be a long distance, on line mentor if you need one, but I think to be an “official” career counselor, you need some sort of certification?
That said, I have been around the block more than once. Heck, some say that I’ve been up and down the corporate ladder so often; I should know each rung by heart. Don’t know about that, but I do know what it takes to get hired. I have been a small business owner with experience writing business plans that have actually raised capital. I’ve run an import company and a number of sales organizations.
I’ve also hired a lot of people. I tend to know what folks in HR and hiring positions look for. Does this mean I’m going to be or claim to be some sort of hiring guru whose magic touch is going to get you your dream job? Not even close. No self-deluded guru in this here neck of the woods.
But I think I can be a guide. I can point you in the right direction; maybe help remove at least a couple of obstacles along the way. Bottom line, I think I can help some of you find a job, a purpose, a reason for being here.
Write me, email me, and let me know what you think. You’re out there beating the bushes, but say you come across something; you’re not sure of or would like to bounce it off someone, shoot it my way. I’ll always do the best I can in pointing you in the right direction.
In fact, think of me as that guy with half his face covered in “Home Improvement,” just hanging around and dispensing some commonsense advice.
Of course, I have been known to goof up now and then and then again. So, something, anything that I say or do irritate you, please, please, let me know. If you think the whole point and concept of this website is pathetic and a sham, let me know. After all, feedback – good or bad – is the breakfast of champions. So, the more feedback, the better I get and the better this site gets. Seriously, love to hear from you; help me grow this little website of mine.
Good Luck on your Journey and here’s to your success.
